What is Bioclear?
Dr. Clark invented the Bioclear curved mylar forms or matrix that shape the filling around your tooth. This is where Bioclear gets its name. This special matrix allows the heated composite to flow into and wrap around your tooth, allowing for more enamel engagement. The strongest bond in dentistry is to the enamel and the Bioclear System maximizes this bond to enamel. Traditional dentistry does not do this.
Your mouth has a naturally occurring biofilm. This biofilm is a sticky layer of plaque, proteins, and food debris that gathers at the gum line and in between your teeth. This biofilm can interfere with bonding the restorations to your tooth. The Bioclear System uses a special dye that identifies exactly where the biofilm is so it can be blasted off using a special instrument. With the biofilm removed, the chemistry for bonding the restoration to the tooth is maximized. The end result is a stronger restoration that is bonded and sealed to your tooth.
By using heated composite, Bioclear restorations are injection molded into and around your tooth in a single mass with no layers. This creates a monolithic or continuous restoration that is significantly stronger than traditional layered methods.
Bioclear finishes with a Rock Star Polishing Technique that has been shown to have the highest polish of any system ever tested. This system creates an infinity edge that is so gradual and smooth, it’s almost impossible to see or detect. This infinity edge will not inflame your gum tissue that’s often seen around crowns or sloppy fillings. Due to the high gloss finish, the rockstar polish will resist staining which is common in traditional filling techniques.
In my opinion, the Bioclear Method and technology are at the pinnacle of modern composite dentistry. That’s because your tooth is sealed to super clean blasted enamel, tapering down to an infinity edge, having a high gloss finish all while being under compression which is 4 times stronger.
This is the type of dentistry many dentists are choosing when they need dental work. Bioclear is minimally invasive, conserves tooth structure, it is stronger, more aesthetic, and longer lasting.
Keeping more of your original tooth while making it stronger just makes sense. These Bioclear restorations are more technical, and they are labor intensive but the final results are truly revolutionary.

Bioclear Overlays
- Single visit procedure
- Preserves as much of your original tooth as possible (minimally invasive) and still be as strong as a ceramic crown.
- Most of the overlay margins have infinity edge and are away from your gum tissue, meaning no weak spot or inflamed gums.
- Overlays are designed to engage a large amount of enamel where they get maximum bond strength to your tooth. This seals your tooth and protects from future cavity formation.
- Durable resin composites are heated then injection molded into and around your tooth that strengthen and essentially become one with your tooth.
- Bioclear overlays wear at the same rate as enamel
- Not every tooth is a candidate for a Bioclear overlay but a lot of them are.
- Bioclear restorations can stain just like all tooth-colored fillings. Things like smoking, red wine, vaping, tea, and coffee all can contribute to staining. Like all staining, it can be removed at your dental cleaning.
- It just makes no sense to me to be removing all of your strong healthy enamel just to "fix your tooth" with a crown. Why don't we save the crown option for out final option. Seems like more conservative with similar strengths is a better choice. Most of the time I recommend the Bioclear overlay over a crown.
